Life

Maria Theresia Isabella was the daughter of Archduke Karl of Austria-Teschen and Princess Henriette of Nassau-Weilburg . This made her a granddaughter of Emperor Leopold II on her father's side .

She grew up as the oldest of six siblings on the Weilburg in Baden (Lower Austria). When her mother died in 1829, when she was 13 at the time, she took over her role.

From 1834 to 1835, at the age of 18, she was abbess of the Theresian Ladies' Foundation in Prague for two years .

At the age of 20, Maria Theresa married on January 27, 1837 in Naples the 27-year-old widowed Ferdinand II of Bourbon, King of the Two Sicilies, son of Francis I of Bourbon, King of the Two Sicilies, and Maria Isabel de Borbón , Infanta of Spain.

In 1859 the mother of twelve became widowed and her stepson Francis II of Naples Sicily took office. In 1860 the royal family had to flee to Rome. She died on August 8, 1867 at the age of 51 in Albano Laziale , near Rome .
