Maria Diane Taylor (born May 21, 1976 in Birmingham , Alabama ) is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist in indie rock and folk .

Life

She started out as a member of Little Red Rocket when she was fifteen . This band released two albums on Geffen Records, Who Did You Pay (1997) and It's in the Sound (2000); then the band broke up. After Taylor moved to Athens in the US state of Georgia , she founded the duo Azure Ray with her band colleague Orenda Fink . After three albums with Azure Ray, she began with musical solo projects.

Her first solo work 11:11 was released in May 2005, followed by the albums Lynn Teeter Flower (March 2007), LadyLuck (April 2009) and Overlook (August 2011).

Maria Taylor also worked with Bright Eyes and Moby . She plays several instruments including drums, piano and guitar.

Her song song Beneath The Song was played in the US television series Grey's Anatomy and there was also an episode of the series named after her (The Musical Episode).
