Emergence

Most of the songs for "Lynn Teeter Flower" were written during the tour for the previous album " 11:11 ". The album was recorded in different phases: First there was a recording session in Austin (Texas) with Jim Eno, the drummer of the band Spoon . Four more tracks were recorded in Athens, Georgia , with Andy LeMaster from Now It's Overhead , who had already worked on "11:11". The album was completed in Memphis, Tennessee , where Taylor worked with Doug Easley, who had previously looked after Cat Power and Pavement .

Style description

Saddle Creek emphasizes that the sound of the album is more like the live shows that Taylor has been playing since 11:11. According to Allmusic Guide , Taylor's second album stands out noticeably from their debut in that it no longer relies on sonic similarities to Bright Eyes , but instead goes its own way with a lively sound that leads to shabby chic and credibility. Plattentests.de, on the other hand, notes that it is about the same album with other songs that are just more rhythmic. Contactmusic describes "Lynn Teeter Flower" as a mixture of Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morissette .

Critical appraisal

"Lynn Teeter Flower" received a Metascore of 65. In addition to some ratings in the upper area, there were cautiously positive reviews: laut.de gave the album four out of five points and spoke of a love of detail in the sound. CDstarts.de spoke of lovingly and innovatively arranged songs and gave them a rating of 9/10 points. Kulturnews gave the album five out of six possible points. Uncut described the album as a winning hybrid of indie neuroses and brill -building craft, precision and intimacy. In the review by PopMatters, in which the album achieved 6/10 points, it was stated that "Lynn Teeter Flower" does not have a musically intensive expression, but as a strong pop album with enough atmosphere and beauty it appeals to certain groups of buyers. Record tests online said there were no good reasons not to like "Lynn Teeter Flower" if you liked its predecessor and gave 6/10 points. The American Rolling Stone awarded 3/5 points and spoke of a thoughtful, beautiful singer / songwriter work that would do better if Taylor made it easier for himself with introspection. "Lynn Teeter Flower" received 4.7 out of ten points at Pitchfork Media . Despite the use of different, loosening stylistic devices, the album never sheds an inherent indolence.
