history

After the Second World War, a settlement was built south of the Angerlohe forest in Untermenzing, where displaced Silesians and Sudeten Germans found a new home. In 1956 an emergency church was built for this settlement , which was named Maria Trost. The Kuratie Maria Trost initially belonged to the parish of St. Martin .

After the foundation stone was laid on September 6, 1970, the new, built by architect Josef Jechart church parish center was Cardinal on April 16, 1972 Julius Döpfner opened , and Maria Trost became an independent parish. Since 2006 Maria Trost has formed a parish association with St. Raphael .

building

The parish church and the parish buildings are grouped around a rectangular inner courtyard of about 18 m by 25 m, the longitudinal axis of which runs in a north-south direction. The courtyard has a covered walkway. In the south-west there is a bell tower, through which there is access from the street. In the east, the cuboid church building made of the materials concrete, steel and wood joins over a base area of around 25 m by 25 m. In the north and west there are single-storey buildings, the parish hall and a kindergarten . The parsonage with parish office and two apartments is west of this complex on the street.

The interior of the church building is designed according to the central design ideas of "everyday life" and "equality". The room, sober in the sense of "everyday life", is paneled with horizontally running wooden panels . Light comes in through a horizontal ribbon of windows about halfway up the building. In the sense of “equality”, the places of the believers are arranged on chairs around the altar table, which has only been slightly raised since 1989 - rather unusual for a Catholic Church in Germany. The equipment of the modern church includes an approximately one meter high statue of the Madonna by an unknown carver from around 1450.
