Maria Windhager (* 1967 in Linz ) is an Austrian lawyer who specializes in media law .

Live and act

Maria Windhager studied law at the University of Salzburg and at the University of Vienna , where she received her Dr. iur. PhD. She works as a lawyer specializing in media law and privacy protection .

Windhager has long represented Standard Verlag as a media lawyer. In 2019, in a test case for her client Eva Glawischnig, she brought about a much-noticed ruling by the European Court of Justice that Facebook can be obliged internationally to delete hate postings . Windhager also represents the Green MP Sigrid Maurer in the fight against hate postings. In addition, she obtained several judgments to strengthen the protection of children as victims in the media.
