Mariama Sowe (nickname: Bom , more rarely bomb , hence also: Mariama Bom Sowe , born around 1973 ) is a former Gambian soccer player and soccer coach .

Life

Sowe grew up in Brikama and was enthusiastic about sports at an early age, initially athletics. She was supported by her father.

In football, she played as a goalkeeper for Jeshwang United, Company Ten, Bundung United, the Red Scorpions and Interior FC . As this sport did not fit into the classic female role model for some, she was confronted with prejudice and discrimination.

Sowe has been the head coach at Interior FC since 2005. She took over the post as the successor to Pa Dodou Sarr , having previously been goalkeeper and captain there. In 2017 she and her team won the championship and the FF Cup.

In August 2007 she did a four-week trainer training course in Sweden, in October / November of that year she took part in a trainer training course together with Choro Mbenga in Johannesburg (South Africa). At the end of 2007 she was commissioned with Mbenga and Bubacarr Jallow (also: Buba Jallow) to put together a Gambian national soccer team for women .

From 2009 she was assistant coach to the team under Bubacarr Jallow. In 2012 she was also his assistant for the Gambian U-17 team. The team qualified for the U-17 Women's World Cup in Azerbaijan in 2012, but lost all three group games significantly and was bottom of the group.

At the end of 2015, she was the head coach of the Gambian national soccer team for women and took over the post again in May 2017. Her assistant is Foday Bah from Wallidan Banjul .
