Marian Alma , also Marion Alma , stage name Manoli ( November 3, 1860 in Zaleszczyki - 1937 or 1938 ) was a Polish opera singer (tenor), theater and film actor .

Life

Alma was supposed to become a technician, but decided to become a singer because of his preference for the theater. He made his debut on October 1, 1878 as "Lorenzo" in "Fra Diavolo" at the National Theater Lemberg. Although he was hired, he realized that he needed training in his voice. Therefore, he had them trained by the Polish bassist Walery Wysocki . He stayed in Lemberg until February 1, 1885, but had already learned the German language for two years. On November 25, 1884 he made his debut in German under the stage name Manoli in the "Faust" in Olomouc. His further appearance on February 26, 1885, also in Olomouc in the "Masked Ball" as "Richard" caused such a stir that he was immediately offered an engagement at the Court Opera Theater in Vienna. But first he went to Mainz from 1885 to 1887 to further develop his voice. From 1887 to 1888 he sang at the Vienna Court Opera House, but only stayed there for a year. From 1888 to 1989 he was at the Berlin Court Opera Theater. This was followed by Düsseldorf from 1890 to 1893, Breslau in 1894, Magdeburg in 1895 and in 1896 he returned to Berlin. He stayed there until at least 1902. Nothing is known about his life between 1902 and 1919; he only reappeared as a silent film actor in 1912. He probably died in 1937 or early 1938, since the Berlin address book for 1938 only lists "Anna Alma, widow" under his address.
