Marian Bergeron

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marian Bergeron (born May 3, 1918 in West Haven , Connecticut , † October 22, 2002 in Ohio ) was an American beauty queen and in 1933 the eighth Miss America .

Marian Bergeron was born in West Haven in 1918 to Elmer R. Bergeron, a motorized unit police officer. Already at the age of 12 she made public appearances as a young singer and sang on the local radio station. In 1933 she worked at the Miss Greater New Haven Pageant . Since one participant was canceled, she took her place and immediately won the competition. A few days later she took part in Roton Point in the Miss Connecticut election, which she also won. A few weeks later she also won the Miss America title, but had given the wrong age when applying.

When she was showered with film and stage roles after the win, her real age also came out and all offers were withdrawn. She then went back to high school and completed her studies. She later married and had three children. She spent her free time volunteering to help patients. She was diagnosed with a rare type of leukemia in July 2001 , from which she died in 2002 at the age of 84.
