Mariano Biondi (soccer player)

Mariano Biondi (* 22. August 1950 in Buenos Aires ; † 1. July 2015 ) was an Argentine football player , - coach , and - functionary .

Athletic career

Biondi began his career at CA Temperley . As a champion of the second-rate Primera B Nacional , he rose with the club in 1974 in the Primera División . Until 1977, the offensive midfielder ran for the team in the top division, before moving to CA Independiente . There he won the “Campeonato Nacional” at the end of the year and the “Campeonato Metropolitano” the following spring. In 1980 he moved to Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro for a year , then he earned his money at the second division club CA Tigre . From 1982 he played in Ecuador , where he was under contract with LDU Portoviejo , the team from the University of Portoviejo .

At the beginning of the 1990s, Biondi coached various clubs in lower-class Argentine football, including leading his home club CA Temperley in 1995 to rise from the third division. Later he was director of the youth department of Boca Juniors , and in 2011 he returned to LDU Portoviejo as general director. He also worked for various private companies as well as for the Argentine Association of Auditors.

After Biondi got into economic difficulties, he passed away after a short, serious illness in the summer of 2015 at the age of 64.
