Mariano Padilla y Ramos (* 1842 in Murcia ; † 1906 in Paris ) was a Spanish opera singer ( baritone ).

Life

Padilla y Ramos made his debut as a baritone in Messina . He had memorable appearances in opera houses in Italy , Austria , Germany and Russia .

On May 18, 1867 he sang Renato in the Danish premiere of Verdi's Un ballo in maschera at the Casino Theater in Copenhagen . Sarolta de Bujanovis appeared on stage as Amelia.

Padilla y Ramos became engaged to the Belgian singer and fiancé of the composer Peter Tchaikovsky , Désirée Artôt , in January 1869 , and married her a few months later on September 15, 1869 in Sèvres . From the marriage the daughter Lola Artôt de Padilla emerged, who also became a singer.
