Dieblich-Mariaroth, Marienkapelle

Mariaroth is a district of Dieblich on the Moselle . He is named after the defunct Premonstratensian -Stift Maria Roth .

location

The district is approx. 5 km above the Moselle on the K69 between Waldesch and Dieblich on the slope of the Hunsrück heights .

It is located on the territory of the former monastery, which was much larger and had lands with mills and ponds in the Kondertal .

history

Around 1900, around a century after the monastery was dissolved and destroyed, there were seven families living in Mariaroth; the farms were mostly built from the rubble of the monastery buildings.

The first single-family houses were built around 1950, followed by a forest boarding house in 1959, which is still in operation today as a restaurant.

The district has around 130 inhabitants (as of 2009).

Lady Chapel

Already at the time of the monastery there was a St. George's Chapel at the same location - in today's town center, outside the monastery walls (first mentioned in 1471).

Every year processions took place on the patronage festival (April 23).

The current building with a small turret and bell was built in 1870 - now as the Marienkapelle - on the foundations of this forerunner. Inside there is a statue of Mary with a child.

The chapel is also found in the local coat of arms of Mariaroth.
