Marie-Christine Hellmann

Marie-Christine Hellmann ( July 12, 1950 - December 30, 2017 ) was a French classical archaeologist .

Marie-Christine Hellmann studied from 1970 to 1975 at the École normal supérieure de jeunes filles and the Sorbonne . Then she was from 1975 to 1979 member of the École française d'Athènes and took part in the excavations of Delos and Amathous . In 1983 she received her doctorate at the University of Paris I , and in 1990 her habilitation at the University of Lyon II .

From 1980 to 1985 she was responsible for the Wilhelm Froehner Collection at the Cabinet des Médailles . Since 1985 she has worked for the CNRS , since 1991 as Directeur de recherche. From 1992 to 2001 she worked at the Institut de Recherche sur l'Architecture Antique in Lyon , then until 2003 in Paris-Ivry. From 2004, she was based at the Laboratoire Archéologies et Sciences de l'Antiquité des Maison René-Ginouvès at the University of Paris Ouest-Nanterre. In 2012 she received the CNRS Silver Medal and in 2013 the Order of the Legion of Honor .

In 2015 she retired.

Her research areas were the history of Greek architecture and, until 2012, the history of collecting antiquities.
