Marie-Claude Najm

Marie-Claude Najm (born April 6, 1971 ) is a Lebanese lawyer , university professor and politician. From January to August 2020 she is Minister of Justice in the Diab cabinet .

Life

Marie-Claude Najm studied at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the USH; there she obtained a Bachelor of Law and a doctorate in international law from the University of Paris Pantheon (ASSAS). Najem is the niece of Naji Boustani , who was Minister of Culture under Omar Karamé in 2004/05 . In her professional career, she worked as a lawyer and professor at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut. She is also a lawyer at the Beirut Bar Association. She got involved in civil society and was a founding member of the 2007 “Khalas!” Campaign, which sought a peaceful solution to the sectarian conflict at the time. Since January 21st she has been appointed as a representative of the Maronite community , by the President and the Free Patriotic Movement , and Minister of Justice in Hassan Diab's cabinet .

On August 10, 2020, she announced her resignation after the protests following the explosion in the port of Beirut .
