Gerd Langhoff

Gerd Langhoff (born August 17, 1931 in Rostock ) is a German sports scientist , university professor and former handball player.

Life

Langhoff completed his schooling and university education in his hometown Rostock: in 1950 he obtained his university entrance qualification , in 1954 he passed the state examinations in the subject of physical exercise at the University of Rostock and then worked as a research assistant. In 1959 he completed an additional examination for school service in the upper school. In 1963 Langhoff's doctoral thesis (title: "The deceptive movements of the indoor ball player, attempt of a motor and psychological analysis of their characteristics as a contribution to the improvement of individual game actions") was accepted at the University of Rostock. From 1964 he held the rank of senior assistant at the University of Rostock, and from then on he was employed in the field of biomechanics / sports motor skills, having previously worked in the field of game theory. In 1969, Langhoff became a university lecturer and he completed his habilitation in 1979 (title: "On the performance structure in handball. A contribution to the optimization of the training and competition system in the high-performance area of ​​handball").

In 1983, Langhoff was appointed associate professor for the natural sciences of sport at the University of Rostock, from 1993 to 1997 he was a full professor for movement sciences with a focus on sports motor skills / biomechanics, and during the same period he headed the institute for sports science at the University of Rostock.

Langhoff dealt with the sport of handball , among other things , in 1958 he was co-author of the later reissued book “Indoor handball”, in 1965 he and Theo Endert published “Schoolchildren play handball. A book for school and sports community ”, which was published until 1987 under the title“ Handball in school. A book for schools and sports communities ”appeared in several editions. He also contributed to the book "Sportspiele" by Günther Stiehler , Irmgard Konzag and Hugo Döbler . Langhoff examined the physical strain of handball players in the high-performance area, technical-motor questions of basic handball training as well as throwing power and movement skills of handball players. Furthermore, he dealt with biomechanics in the training of conditional skills, sports motor skills in the training of sports teachers and coordinative skills of students. He also did research in diving .

Langhoff was a handball player himself and won several championships of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) with BSG Motor Rostock and SC Empor Rostock in the 1950s . He also played international matches for the GDR and took part in the World Festival in Moscow . In 1957, Langhoff competed against the FRG in an international field handball match with the GDR in front of 80,000 spectators in the Leipzig Central Stadium . His brother Klaus Langhoff was also a competitive handball player.
