Marie-Paule Jungblut (born October 12, 1964 in Freiburg im Üechtland , Switzerland ) is a Luxembourg historian, curator and museum director. From August 2012 to the end of September 2015 she was director of the Basel Historical Museum .

Career

Jungblut studied history and German at the Universities of Luxembourg and Göttingen until 1988 . She then worked as a research assistant at the European Institute for the Media in Manchester and as an exhibition assistant for Gilbert Trausch as part of the national history exhibition De l'Etat à la nation. 1839-1989 . From 1990 to the end of 1991 she was a lecturer at the Lycée Technique du Center and at the Lycée Robert-Schuman.

From 1991 to 2012 she worked as a historian, curator and deputy director at the Musée d'Histoire de la Ville de Luxembourg . There, under the direction of Danièle Wagener, she was largely responsible for the first permanent exhibition and the associated collection and for the program of the temporary exhibitions. In 2010 she curated both the permanent exhibition of the European Museum Schengen, which opened in the same year, and a temporary exhibition on the Schengen agreements in the Luxembourg pavilion at the World Exhibition in Shanghai . She was also Maître de conférence at the Universities of Liège and Luxembourg in the field of museology .

In February 2012 she was elected director of the Historisches Museum Basel and took up the position in August 2012. At the end of September 2015, she resigned by “mutual agreement”. Jungblut was harshly criticized in the press regarding the financial condition of the Historical Museum.

From 2004 to 2010, Jungblut was President and Secretary General of the Association internationale des musées d'histoire (AIMH) and the Comité des Musées et Collections archéologiques et historiques (ICMAH), as well as a board member of both associations.

Marie-Paule Jungblut has published and given lectures on numerous topics.
