The street newspaper marie is a monthly newspaper in German in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg . It is the first street newspaper to be published in Vorarlberg.
About the newspaper
History of origin and name
The street newspaper was created in 2015 and was first offered for sale on December 8, 2015. On the first day of distribution, 10,000 copies of the newspaper were delivered, but not a single colporteur was employed. Within a few days, interested parties were found and on December 23, 2015, all the first copies of the newspaper were already sold out.
Co-founders of the newspaper are Robert Thoma, Gernot Hämmerle, Patrick Fürnschuß and Gerhard Hofer.
The name of the newspaper goes back to Robert Sommer , who co-founded the street newspaper Augustin . Originally, the name "Marie" was also used as the name for the later street newspaper Augustin and the decision for Augustin was narrowly made. The co-founder of the street newspaper marie , Robert Thoma, took this with him as a suggestion in a conversation with Robert Sommer in Vienna, during which the title of the new newspaper in Vorarlberg was discussed. Marie ( Maria ) stands for a variety of terms, such as B.
- for money (Geldmarie, Goldmarie ),
- a name that is used by both women and men (see: Marie (first name) ),
- a name that can be combined with other names in a variety of ways (see: Marie-Jeanne , Annemarie , Rosemarie , Marie-Rose, Jean-Marie , Erich-Maria, Marie-Josée etc.),
- a name that has been associated with goodness, wisdom, balance, mediation, etc. many times in history,
and was therefore seen as a suitable name for the first Vorarlberg street newspaper.
marie is a member of the World Association of Street Papers : International Network of Street Papers
distribution
Distribution is carried out by the homeless and / or marginalized people from and on the street. Half of the € 2.60 sales price remains with the sellers ( colporteurs ). The newspaper appears once a month and has enjoyed a very high level of acceptance among the population since the first issue, which has doubled the circulation within a year (from 10,000 to 20,000 copies). In mid-2016, it was necessary to stop admission from the sellers, as the limit had been reached with around 100 sellers.
Alignment
The street newspaper marie sees itself as a mouthpiece for the concerns of marginalized groups and is an offer for self-help for people in Vorarlberg who live on or below the poverty line .
The aim of the street paper is to promote the understanding of the coexistence of all people.
Structure of the newspaper
