Marie Sophie Freifrau von Reichenbach , b. von Friesen (* 1652 ; † 1718 in Jahnishausen ) was a German manor owner, collator of the church in Prausitz, patroness of the churches in Prausitz and Mehltheuer, school donor and pietist .

Marie Sophie was the daughter of the manor owner, diplomat and court official Heinrich von Friesen the Elder. J.(1610–1680) and his wife Margaretha von Lützelburg (1632–1689). She grew up in Schönfeld and Dresden (An der Kreuzkirche 18) and had numerous siblings, some of whom died early. At the age of 15 she was married to Christoph Heinrich Freiherr von Reichenbach auf Siebeneichen near Jauer in Silesia (today: Debowy Gaj) (1610–1677), state elder of Schweidnitz and Jauer. After the death of her husband, she lived temporarily in Dresden, in the house of her late grandfather Heinrich the Elder. Ä. von Friesen, Schreibergasse 1. Through an inheritance it was possible for her to acquire the manor Jahnishausen near Meißen (through a relative), which was converted from a fief into an allodial (personal property) in 1677.

After her death, the estate went to a son of her sister Ursula Regina von Callenberg, née. of Frisians, over.

Life

In 1694 she hired a child teacher, and in 1717 the school foundation in Mehltheuer was based on the principles of Halle Pietism. Along with her cousin Henriette Catharina von Gersdorff, she was one of the pillars of Pietism in Saxony. She was in correspondence with August Hermann Francke , Johann Wilhelm Petersen and his wife Johanna Eleonora Petersen . In 1692 she offered hospitality to the controversial visionary Rosamunde Juliane von der Asseburg in Jahnishausen, which lasted until her death in 1712. She laid out a small botanical garden next to the castle.
