The Roman Catholic St. Mary's Chapel Hinterachmühle is in the district Rear Achmühle the town of Dornbirn in Dornbirn in Vorarlberg . It is consecrated to the Mother of God and belongs to the parish church of St. Leopold and thus to the dean's office in Dornbirn in the diocese of Feldkirch . The building dates from around 1850 and is about 1.3 km as the crow flies from the city center of Dornbirn.

history

The chapel on Hinteren Achmühlerstraße was built around 1850 (between 1848 and 1853) by the owners of the surrounding houses to protect the buildings on the Dornbirner Ach from flooding. A previous building was a wayside shrine with a depiction of the fourteen emergency helpers who stood nearby.

The chapel was renovated in 1960 and 1983.

Church building

It is a building with a rectangular basic shape and south-west / north-east orientation with a pointed barrel vaulted prayer room. To the northeast (altar) the outer walls are sloping. The simple wooden door and the bell ridge on the gable roof with an octagonal pointed helmet are to the southwest. The gable roof is covered with plain tiles.

Furnishing

On the altar is a clothed figure of Our Lady with Child from the 18th century and the altarpiece shows the Holy Family with John .

On the right there is a painting " Good Shepherd " from 1855. On the opposite side a picture of St. Helena with the inscription: " Believe, hope and love ". All pictures are signed: " Schwendinger, painter ". The altarpiece shows the year 1853, the side pictures the year 1855.
