history
The origins of the Marienkrankenhaus go back to 1866. The outbreak of cholera led to a call for help from the Catholic community in Schwerte to the order of the Franciscan Sisters from Salzkotten . The order then sent two sisters who settled at 11 Hagener Strasse. Care was initially limited to outpatient nursing . The first inpatient was treated on April 9, 1869. After a few stops at Schützenstrasse 5 and Nordwall 14, the foundation stone for the new hospital was laid on June 9, 1881. On June 18, 1882, the inauguration took place under the name "Marien Hospital". Until the 1960s, there were many modifications and additions to the hospital. The current building, which replaced the original building, was initiated by Pastor Wilhelm Stelzner. Between 2005 and 2007 a new wing was built that expanded the intensive care unit and the operating theater area. In addition, the old reception was replaced by a new central reception and a new central sterilization facility was set up. In 2009 another wing with rooms for optional benefit patients was built .
Departments
The Marienkrankenhaus includes departments for anesthesiology and intensive medicine , internal medicine , trauma and orthopedic surgery, plastic , aesthetic and hand surgery , visceral and vascular surgery as well as gynecology and obstetrics at the Goethestrasse location . Furthermore, there is a department of ENT - licensed beds . The hospital is also a location of the Märkische Breast Center , certified by the Medical Association of Westphalia-Lippe , which also includes the Märkische Kliniken in Lüdenscheid and the Bethanien Hospital in Iserlohn . At the Schützenstrasse location there are two departments - the Clinic for Internal Medicine, the Clinic for Geriatrics, and the focus on the Center for Multimodal Pain Therapy, the Center for Age Traumatology , the Center for Dysphagia, the Center for Endoscopy and the Sleep Laboratory.
