The Medical Association Westphalia-Lippe (ÄKWL) is a medical association in North Rhine-Westphalia . It represents 40,000 doctors and is the fourth largest medical association in Germany.

The ÄKWL is the professional self-governing body of doctors in Westphalia-Lippe.

tasks

In addition to representing the interests of the medical profession in the Arnsberg administrative region , the Detmold administrative region and the Münster administrative region , regional training is carried out. In addition, the training of medical assistants is controlled. The ÄKWL is also responsible for resolving internal medical disputes and dealing with patient complaints. The expert commission for medical liability issues acts independently and examines allegations of malpractice. A portal for patient advice is operated together with the Westphalia-Lippe Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. ÄKWL has been running a professional pension fund, the Ärzteversorgung Westfalen-Lippe, since 1960.

The ÄKWL is divided into the 12 administrative districts of Arnsberg, Bielefeld, Bochum, Detmold, Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Hagen, Lüdenscheid, Minden, Münster, Paderborn and Recklinghausen.

history

Until the DC circuit of the medical self-government in the Reich Medical Association by the Nazis , this task was by the Hartmannbund and the German Medical Association Bund perceived. After the end of the Second World War, the Working Group of West German Medical Chambers was founded in the West German occupation zones in 1946 . The Westphalia-Lippe Medical Association was founded in 1947.

magazine

The organ of communication is the monthly magazine Westfälisches Ärzteblatt . The newspaper, which is editorially and technically supervised by the press office, informs the members about the activities and positions of their corporation in editorial articles. In addition, the Westfälisches Ärzteblatt contains all important official notices, resolutions and professional regulations. The publication is published by IVD-Verlag (D-Ibbenbüren) and has the ISSN  0340-5257 .
