The Berlin Medical Association is the medical association for the state of Berlin . As a professional organization, it represents the interests of around 31,300 doctors in Berlin.

tasks

The Berlin Medical Association represents the interests of the approximately 31,300 doctors in Berlin. It organizes further and advanced medical training and monitors the training of medical assistants. In addition to professional supervision and advice to doctors, she represents the Berlin medical community on professional and health policy issues. With the Berliner Ärzteversorgung , she runs the professional pension scheme. A dedicated ethics committee is operated to assess and monitor research projects involving humans. The Berlin Medical Association publishes the monthly membership magazine Berliner Doctors .

history

The Medical Association for the Province of Brandenburg and the City of Berlin was founded by royal decree in 1887 . This initially limited its activities to intercollegial exchange and advice to doctors on issues relating to professional practice and general health care. On behalf of the Prussian government, a medical status code was drawn up. From 1900 the medical association received the permission to raise contributions to its financing. At the same time, professional jurisdiction was introduced for violations of professional ethics. In 1926 the Prussian medical associations were converted into corporations under public law . Membership became compulsory for doctors. By the DC circuit of the medical associations in the Reich Medical Association in 1936, the Medical Association for the province of Brandenburg and the Berlin Township was dissolved. After the Second World War , the re-establishment took place relatively late due to the special status of Berlin. While the state medical associations were newly established in West Germany during the 1940s, a corresponding law did not come into force in West Berlin until 1961. After reunification on October 3, 1990, doctors from the eastern part of Berlin were accepted into the Berlin Medical Association.

organization

The 31,300 Berlin doctors are compulsory members of the Berlin Medical Association. These elect the members of the 46-member assembly of delegates. The assembly of delegates represents the parliament of the medical association. The delegates elect a board from among their ranks. This consists of the chamber president, a deputy president and 9 other board members. In addition, there are 24 working committees that prepare decisions and recommendations for the delegates' assembly.
