The Baden-Württemberg State Medical Association is based in Stuttgart - Degerloch . The Medical Association looks after around 70,000 doctors in Baden-Württemberg .

history

With the founding of the South West State and the Medical Professions Chamber Act for Baden-Württemberg of October 21, 1953, the four independent medical chambers (South) Baden, North Baden, North Württemberg and South Württemberg merged to form the State Medical Association of Baden-Württemberg in 1954. The two medical associations of Baden are today, as district medical associations, legally dependent organizations of the state medical association of Baden-Württemberg. Wolfgang Miller has been acting President since February 23, 2019.

tasks

As a corporation under public law, it is the task of the State Medical Association of Baden-Württemberg to take care of the professional interests of our members on the basis of the Medical Professions Chamber Act. It is responsible for medical self-administration and is based in Stuttgart. There are also four district medical associations in the administrative districts. The most important tasks of the Baden-Württemberg State Medical Association include:

to promote the health protection of the population and to cooperate with other health professions
to look after the professional interests of doctors and to advise politics and administration
to monitor and promote further medical training
to promote further medical training
To develop and apply measures for the quality assurance of the medical profession: to monitor the fulfillment of the professional duties of our members and to establish a professional judiciary
to organize the training of medical assistants

Members

The Baden-Württemberg State Medical Association has around 70,000 doctors as members (as of May 1, 2020). Around 20,300 chamber members work in the outpatient area and around 26,200 in the inpatient area. Around 4,900 doctors work outside these areas. Around 18,000 chamber members are retired or without medical practice.
