The Marienstift or Kruglederer House is a historic building in the old town of Bad Tölz in Upper Bavaria . It forms the southern lower end of the marketplace development and, with its strikingly painted west facade, shapes the view from the Isar and Isar bridge to the old town of Tölz.

At the site of the current building at Marktstrasse 2 there was the “Zum Krug” wine tavern around 1475, the Kruglederer brewery around 1577 and, from 1750, a red tannery. In 1816 the future member of parliament and historian Johann Nepomuk Sepp was born in the house as the son of a dyer. From 1869, Sepp's sister Anna Barbara Merz, wealthy widow of an optician from Tölz, had the Kruglederer house and five adjacent buildings converted into an old people's home, which was opened on July 1, 1892 as the Stift Mariä Sacrifice. In 1905 an extensive redesign took place according to plans by Gabriel von Seidl , in which the previously flat tin roof was replaced by a hipped roof. In addition, Karl Wahler painted the facade richly with frescoes, among other things dedicated to the memory of the Sendlinger Murder Christmas and the blacksmith von Kochel :

“In memory of Hans Jäger Höckensohn, the heroic hunter landlord, who, as city councilor of Munich and confidante of the Oberland, set out with the Landsturm to liberate the capital and was beheaded and quartered after the accident at Sendling. To the glory of Schmiedbalthes Riesenberger vom Bach, who won the battle for prince and fatherland with the Valleyer flag and who was killed in the murder Christmas of 1705. "

The old people's home was operated as a Marienstift until 2006 and then abandoned at this location because the structurally confusing building complex no longer met the fire protection requirements of a senior citizen care facility. The Marienstift organization of the same name continues to exist and operates the Tölzer Pater-Rupert-Mayer-Haus elsewhere. The Marienstift itself has been a residential and commercial building since 2007. It is listed as an architectural monument under file number D-1-73-112-176 in the Bavarian Monument List.
