Mariko Yamada (born October 23, 1950 in Denver , Colorado ) is an American politician. She belongs to the Democratic Party .

Mariko Yamada's parents were interned at the Manzanar War Relocation Center during World War II and moved to Colorado after their release. Mariko attended city schools in Denver and then the University of Colorado Boulder . In 1972 she received the degree of Bachelor in Psychology . Yamada then moved to Los Angeles, where she completed a Masters in Social Work from the University of Southern California . In the 1980s, Mariko Yamada worked in Washington, DC. Back in California, she worked for various public bodies in the social sector, most recently on the Yolo County Board of Supervisors until 2008 .

In 2008, Yamada was first elected to the California State Assembly as the 8th constituency representative and was confirmed in the 2010 election. Since the 2012 election she has been a member of the 4th district following a reorganization of the constituencies. Yamada's third and final term in office according to the Articles of Association ends in December 2014.
