Marilyn Nelson Waniek (born April 26, 1946 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is an American poet , children's book author , translator, and literary scholar .

Live and act

As a child, she grew up on a military base and began her first literary attempts in elementary school. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of California at Davis, her master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1970, and her PhD in philosophy from the University of Minnesota in 1979 . From 2001 to 2006 she was a Poeta Laureate of the State of Connecticut .
