Bracken Kearns (born May 12, 1981 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with EHC Linz from the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League . His father Dennis was also a professional ice hockey player and completed a total of ten seasons with the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League (NHL) during his playing career .

Career

Kearns played at the beginning of his career between 2001 and 2005 in a total of five seasons for the Calgary Dinos , the university team of the University of Calgary , in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport . In the 2005/06 season he stood for the Toledo Storm in the lower class ECHL on the ice and completed his first full season as a professional.

The following year he ran with the Milwaukee Admirals in the American Hockey League (AHL), before moving to the 2007/08 season within the league to the Norfolk Admirals , where he then also worked for the Reading Royals farm team in the ECHL denied. After another season with the Admirals , Kearns signed with league rivals Rockford IceHogs , where he marked a total of 51 scorer points in 80 games in the 2009/10 season and was thus able to recommend himself for a contract with the Arizona Coyotes from the National Hockey League , which he was in June 2010. There the attacker was used in the following season, however, exclusively in the farm team San Antonio Rampage in the AHL. In the summer of 2011, Kearns decided to work for the NHL club Florida Panthers , for he played his first game in October 2011 in the 3-0 defeat by the Buffalo Sabers and at the age of 30 became the second oldest player at debuted the Panthers in the top division of North America. After five more games, the left-handed shooter was sent back to the AHL, where he scored 52 scorer points in 69 games at the San Antonio Rampage and served as one of the assistant captains.

For the 2012/13 season Kearns moved to the San Jose Sharks , but was initially only used for the Worcester Sharks in the AHL due to the lockout and only made one game for the Sharks in the NHL. At the beginning of the following season, the striker was still on the ice in the AHL before he was called up to the NHL squad again in December 2013 and scored his first goal in the 3-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks . He also played a total of 25 games for the Sharks in the NHL, until he was sent back to the AHL in Worcester in February 2014. In the run-up to the 2014/15 season, he took part in a training camp with the Boston Bruins as part of a trial contract ( try-out contract ) , which, however, decided against a firm commitment from the Canadian. In October 2014, Kearns moved to Europe and joined the Finnish club Espoo Blues , for which he was on the ice in the subsequent season in the Liiga .

After a year in Finland, Kearns returned to North America and signed a one-year contract with the New York Islanders , which was renewed for a year in the summer of 2016. He then joined the New Jersey Devils as a free agent in July 2017 . In the service of their farm team, the Binghamton Devils , the attacker was honored with the Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award 2018, which recognizes outstanding athleticism and dedication to ice hockey. Then Kearns moved back to Europe when he signed a contract with EHC Linz in the Austrian ice hockey league in July 2018 .
