The Mariner Hill is a striking, snow-free, conical and around 500 m high hill on the east coast of the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It rises halfway between Syrtis Hill and the Two Step Cliffs .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1993 after the Mariner 9 spacecraft , which was the first to orbit the planet Mars in 1971 .
