Raumati Beach is a town in the Kapiti Coast District of Wellington on the North Island of New Zealand .
The city is closely interwoven with Raumati South, which is adjacent to the north and since both places have grown together over the years, they are now like one city. However, they are still listed separately on maps.
Origin of name
In the Māori language , “ raumati ” means “summer”.
geography
Raumati Beach is located around 2 km west of Paraparaumu city center and directly adjacent to Raumati South to the south . Together with Paraparaumu , Paraparaumu Beach , Otaihanga , Waikanae and Waikanae Beach , the two cities on the Kapiti Coast form a settlement center with a combined population of over 37,000, around 76% of the district's total population.
The city, which has an area of 317 hectares, can be reached via the New Zealand State Highway 1 , which runs east of the settlement area and connects Raumati Beach with Porirua in the south and Wellington further south.
climate
As in the entire Kapit Coast region, Raumati South experiences a water shortage during the summer months due to the drought .
history
The place was created in 1908 by entrepreneurs as a resort.
population
In the census of 2013, the city counted inhabited houses with a total of 4848 inhabitants in 2004, 8.5% more than in the 2006 census.
Education
With the Raumati Beach School, the city has a primary school with grades 1 to 8. In 2015, 660 students attended the school.
event
In 2009, the Kapiti Coast Region Council decided, against the will of the majority of residents, the controversial project of relocating and simultaneously widening the New Zealand State Highway 1 through Raumati and further north through Paraparaumu and Waikanae .
