Mario's Picross ( Japanese マ リ オ の ピ ク ロ ス , Mario no pikurosu ) is a video game for the Game Boy . It is part of a series in which Mario's Picross 2 for the Game Boy (only in Japan) and Mario's Super Picross for the Super Nintendo were released.

Overview

At the beginning of the game the game modes "Easy Picross" (64 puzzles) and "Picross" can be selected. The latter consists of the sub-areas Kinoko (64 puzzles), Star (64 puzzles) and Time Trial (64 puzzles). A total of 256 puzzles are available. The game status can be saved in 3 individual memory areas.

The game corresponds to the Japanese logic puzzle Nonogram . On a chessboard-like square playing field there are digits for each row and for each column. One number stands for adjacent fields. There is at least one free field between the areas symbolized by a number, but there can also be several. From the information, it can be deduced by logical combination which boxes have to be chiseled in the game. If the hint function is activated at the beginning of a puzzle, a row and a column are completely solved with the help of a random mode.

The player has 30 minutes to complete a puzzle. However, these are shortened if the wrong fields are carved out.

Mario appears repeatedly in the game. He explains the rules of the game in the tutorial and optionally provides additional information in the game. In addition, other characters from the Mario series appear in the game in supporting roles.

Sequels

In Japan, a module called Picross 2 (ピ ク ロ ス 2?) Was released exclusively for the Game Boy , which contained a collection of Nonogram puzzles . The game offers a world map and larger images than the predecessor that can be unlocked. In addition to Mario's puzzles, Wario 's puzzles were also playable.

For the Super Famicom , Mario's Super Picross (マ リ オ の ス ー パ ー ピ ク ロ ス Mario no Sūpā Pikurosu?) Was released exclusively in Japan in 1995 , the game largely follows its predecessors and was operated with Super Famicom Mouse . The game's free mode has been reused for the Picross DS game . The game's game setting was reused in 1999 for 8 more games that appeared exclusively in Japan on the Satellaview. The following titles have been published:
