Mario Absalon Alvarado Tovar MSC (born September 20, 1970 in La Democracia , Huehuetenango Department , Guatemala ) is a Guatemalan religious and superior general of the Sacred Heart Missionaries .

Life

Mario Absalon Alvarado Tovar joined the congregation of the Sacred Heart Missionaries and made his first profession on August 15, 1991 . He made his perpetual profession on August 15, 1994, and received the sacrament of ordination on October 25, 1997 .

In addition to a master's degree in theology, Alvarado Tovar received a Ph.D. in psychotherapy. PhD . After his ordination he was active in various parishes in Nicaragua and in the formation of the next generation of the religious. Since 2013 he was Provincial of the Central American Province of his Order.

The General Chapter of the Sacred Heart Missionaries elected Mario Absalon Alvarado Tovar on September 11, 2017 in Rome in the first ballot to succeed Mark McDonald as the new Superior General. His term of office is six years, after which a single re-election is possible.
