Mario Castro Bergara

Mario Castro Bergara (born April 22, 1931 in Paysandú ; † July 3, 2011 ) was a Uruguayan musician and poet.

Mario Castro Bergara learned to play guitar from Alberto Carbone at the age of eight and joined the group “Fulgores” at a young age. As early as the 1960s, he appeared on Uruguayan television on Canal 3 and Canal 4 . He also performed his music in many song recitals on the radio and in event halls. Other television appearances were also added. His music was initially assigned to classical music, but later the award-winning Castro Bergara also devoted himself to folk and local music. His masterpiece is the “Cantata a Paysandú” entitled “Heroica”, which he first performed in 1996 at the Teatro Florencio Sánchez . Other artists also used his music. His composition "Canción para el arroyo abandonado", for example, was adapted by his daughter Graciela Castro Bagnasco , Los Hermanos Salles and Los Montaraces , among others . He was a jury member at festivals in Paysandú, Treinta y Tres , Cerro Largo and Chajarí in Entre Ríos . Castro Bergara was married to Eva Bagnasco Rottini, had three children and had eight grandchildren at the time of his death.
