Mario Cvitanović [ ˈmariɔ ˈtsʋitanɔʋitɕ ] (born May 6, 1975 in Zagreb ) is a former Croatian football player .
Career
The left-back played for Radnik Požarevac in his youth and began his professional career in 1995 at NK Dinamo Zagreb . With Zagreb, Cvitanović was five times Croatian football champion before moving to Italy to Hellas Verona in 2000 .
For the 2001/02 season, the Croat moved to SSC Venice , in the following season he was active at CFC Genoa . In 2003 the Wandervogel finally moved to SSC Napoli .
In 2004 Cvitanović's time in Italy ended . After a short time without a club, he joined the Belgian club Germinal Beerschot Antwerp during the 2004/05 season . He won the Belgian Cup in 2005 with the Antwerp team .
In 2006 Cvitanović decided to return to his Croatian homeland; he moved back to NK Dinamo Zagreb . During the winter break, however, the defender turned his back on the Zagreb team and joined the Bundesliga team Energie Cottbus . Cvitanović was immediately a regular on the left wing and was not missing a minute in the second half of his first season. After injuring his teammate Mariusz Kukiełka, he moved into central defense for the last four games of the 2007/08 season. Overall, he played 48 times for the Lausitzer in a year and a half. After the relegation of Cottbus in 2009, Cvitanović's contract was dissolved.
