Mario Rosa

Mario Rosa (born May 8, 1932 in Naples ) is an Italian historian .

Mario Rosa taught as a professor of modern history at the universities of Lecce (1966–1972), Bari (1970–1978), Pisa (1978–1984) and Rome (1984–1989). Most recently, from 1989 to 2004, he was professor of modern history at the Scuola Normale in Pisa. From 1994 to 1998 he was deputy director at the Scuola Normale. Important academic students of Rosa are Marcello Verga and Maria Antonietta Visceglia . He has been a member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei since 2006 . He is editor of the Rivista di storia e letteratura religiosa .

Rosa is considered to be one of the leading experts on Italian history in the early modern period, especially with regard to church structures and religious movements. His work provided the impetus for research into the early modern church and papacy.
