Mario Schönenberger (born May 19, 1986 in Wil SG ) is a former Swiss football player .

Career

Mario Schönenberger played in the offspring of FC Wil when he was loaned to FC Bazenheid in 2002 at the age of 16 and played 18 games for the first team. For the next season he returned to FC Wil, who played in the Super League at the time and with whom he also celebrated victory in the Swiss Cup at the end of the season . At the same time, the Wiler were relegated to the Challenge League .

In the 2006/07 season, Schönenberger moved to FC Thun in the Super League. In 2008 he was loaned to SC Kriens for half a season . For the 2009/10 season, Mario Schönenberger moved back to his home club, FC Wil, where he played until 2012 and also acted as team captain. Then he switched to the newly promoted FC St. Gallen in the Super League, where he was mainly used as a substitute player. With the FCSG he reached 3rd place and the associated qualification for the UEFA Europa League .

In the Europa League play-offs, Schönenberger made his first appearance in the 2013/14 season in a 4-2 win against Spartak Moscow . In the championship he remained without commitment. In January 2014 Schönenberger moved to FC Wohlen . From summer 2015 Schönenberger played for FC Gossau, then one more season at FC Bütschwil after which he ended his active career at the age of 30.
