The Marion Dufresne was a French research and supply ship. It was named after the French explorer Marc-Joseph Marion du Fresne (1727–1772) and served to supply the French Southern and Antarctic Regions (TAAF) and marine research. In 1973 she replaced the previous supplier Gallieni and was replaced in 1995 by a ship of the same name with the same function.

The ship was operated by CMA CGM and served on behalf of the TAAF to supply the stations on the islands of Kerguelen , Crozet , Amsterdam and the Îles Éparses . In addition, it was available as a research ship for the rest of the time. The Marion Dufresne was stationed on the island of Réunion .

The ship was sold in 1995 and continued to operate under the Maltese flag under the name Fres . In 2004 she was aground in Alang, India , and scrapped.
