The Maritime Union Germany (short name: MUD ) was a small northern German party that won 0.12% of the vote in the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein on May 6, 2012 .

Program

The party was founded in July 2011. The main topic was economic policy , in particular the shipbuilding industry and fisheries . She campaigned for the strengthening of northern Germany as a location in shipbuilding and shipping and hoped that this would create new jobs. In addition, the regulation of the economy by the European Union was criticized, but the fundamental unification of Europe was not called into question.

The political scientist Wilhelm Knelangen described it as a " Eurosceptic party". According to the party program, the "liberalization and deregulation of the EU" had disadvantages for Germany, which also applies to "the rules on subsidies and competition law". The focus of the party program was “securing the existing jobs in the maritime industry, creating new employment opportunities and strengthening national decision-making authority vis-à-vis the EU. In particular, the MUD spoke out in favor of expanding state holdings in shipyards in order to improve their competitive position. Public tenders in the maritime sector should only be allowed to be awarded to German companies. A minimum wage should be provided for employees . "

In addition, the local processing of “crabs and other fish products” as well as the “traditional ports with their attractive fishing boats” should be promoted. In terms of social policy, the party demanded subsidies for butter trips for pensioners.

organization

The MUD was founded in 2011 by the Heikendorfer fisherman Konrad Fischer . The party was limited to northern Germany, there were no sub-organizations. The party has not been active since 2012.
