Marius is an impact crater on the western front of the moon in the plane of Oceanus Procellarum . It is northeast of the Reiner crater and northwest of Kepler . The crater wall is hardly eroded and shows terracing. The inside is flat.
The Rima Marius runs north .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German astronomer Simon Marius .
