Marius Babias

Marius Babias (* 1962 in Suceava ) is an art critic, author and curator. Since 2008 he has headed the Neue Berliner Kunstverein (NBK).

Life

Marius Babias studied literature and political science at the Free University of Berlin . In 1997, together with Achim Könneke, he headed the project on going by the Hamburg cultural authority , with which a new approach to art in public space was attempted.

From 1997 he was visiting professor for art theory and art education at the Frankfurt Städelschule , at the Art University Linz and in Kitakyūshū . He was the cultural editor of the Berlin city illustrated Zitty , his art reviews also appeared in the international art forum . In 1996 he was awarded the Carl Einstein Prize for Art Critics.

From 2001 until the premature end of 2003, Babias was responsible as Head of Communication together with Florian Waldvogel , the artistic director, of the exhibition project Contemporary Art and Criticism in the Zollverein coking plant in Essen. At the Biennale di Venezia 2005, Babias curated the Romanian pavilion, where he selected the artist Daniel Knorr for the installation European Influenza . Since 2008 he has headed the New Berlin Art Association . Babias has written and edited numerous publications and exhibition catalogs. He lives in Berlin.
