Mariya Takeuchi

Mariya Takeuchi ( Jap. 竹内まりや , Takeuchi Mariya , born 20th March 1955 in Izumo (Shimane) ) is a Japanese J-Pop - singer and - composer . By September 2014, Takeuchi has released twelve studio albums, 42 singles, several compilations and one live album. Her record sales were estimated at more than 16 million units in 2009. Her compilation Impressions , released in 1994, sold more than three million copies in Japan alone and became her best-selling album.

Plastic love

In 2017 Mariya Takeuchi became an internet meme with her old single "Plastic Love" and gained worldwide fame again. The song was shared several times on YouTube and used for remixes, fan art and reaction videos, so that even celebrities like the K-pop singer Yubin or the Gorillaz took up the phenomenon. In response to the unexpectedly high popularity of the song, Warner Music Japan decided 35 years after the actual release to release a music video for "Plastic Love".
