history
In 1966, the Mod 0 of the Mark 46 was put into service, which has been improved several times until today and was in Mod 6 in 2006 . The last major innovation was the Mod 5A (S) from 1989 with improved performance in shallow water areas.
commitment
The torpedo is deployed from surface ships, helicopters and anti-submarine aircraft. The Mark 46 is also used in the ASROC system and the Mark 60 CAPTOR . In addition to the US Navy, 26 other navies use the system, including the Bremen-class ( F122 ) and Brandenburg-class ( F123 ) frigates of the German Navy .
