Mark Ossipovich Travel
Mark Osipovich Travel ( Russian Марк Осипович Рейзен ; born June 21 . Jul / 3. July 1895 greg. In Saizewo , yekaterinoslav governorate , Russian Empire ; † 25. November 1992 in Moscow , Russia ) was a Soviet opera singer ( bass ).
Life
Reisen's father worked in a coal mine. Reisen initially wanted to become an engineer, but was also encouraged to study singing while at school in Kharkov . In 1921 he made his debut at the Kharkov Opera as Pimen in Boris Godunow . In 1925 he made his debut at GATOB in Leningrad and in 1928 at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow . From 1930 he gave numerous guest appearances in Europe and the United States. The tall, good-looking performer quickly gained international fame and was celebrated worldwide as the successor to Fyodor Chaliapin . After the Second World War , he mainly performed on domestic stages, until 1964 he was a regular member of the Bolshoi Ensemble. 1965–1970 he taught at the Moscow Conservatory , in 1967 he was appointed professor there.
Reise's unusually broad, expressively somewhat static voice rang out with force and virtuosity at the age of 90.
