Mark Anthony Platts (born May 23, 1979 in Sheffield ) is a former English football player . Platts became the youngest player in the Premier League with his league debut for Sheffield Wednesday in February 1996 .
Career
Platts, who played as a selection player for the English national school team and English youth national teams, was still part of the youth division of Sheffield Wednesday as a right winger when he beat the 2-1 home win on February 10, 1996 at the age of 16 years and 263 days the FC Wimbledon his debut in the Premier League was. When he came on for Chris Waddle in the 86th minute, he became the youngest outfield player in Sheffield Wednesday history (undercut by Matt Bowman in August 2006) and replaced Neil Finn as the youngest Premier League player, a record of only three Years later was undercut by Gary McSheffrey . Two weeks later, Platts came against Tottenham Hotspur for another 18-minute league use. Although he was 17 years old when he received his first professional contract in October 1996, he did not come to any other competitive game for the Sheffield first team until he left three years later.
Platts left Sheffield in March 1999 and moved to Torquay United in the Third Division on a free transfer . There he initially played on a non-contract basis before receiving a professional contract for the 1999/2000 season. After a season marked by injury problems, in which he was mainly used in left midfield, he broke his contract due to adjustment difficulties in October 2000 and moved to non-league football at Worksop Town , where he met his former teammate Chris Waddle. Nothing is currently known about his further career.
