Mark Spiegel

Mark Maury Spiegel (born 1960 ) is an American economist .

Career

Spiegel studied economics at the University of California, Berkeley . After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1983, he moved to the University of California, Los Angeles . He graduated there in 1984 as a Master of Arts , four years later he completed his Ph.D. -Degree. Then he went as an assistant professor at the New York University , where he met Jess Benhabib over economic cycles worked and their dynamics. In 1994 he left academia and joined the research division of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco . Here he rose to the position of deputy head of the department. Between 2015 and 2017 he was a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin – Madison .

Spiegel's academic work focuses on research into monetary policy, business cycles and developments, and the description of the underlying dynamics. He worked in particular with Benhabib and Andrew Rose . In various texts he dealt in particular with the crises in Japan and the financial crisis from 2007 .
