Brand role

A trademark role , also market order , is a late medieval and early modern legal document that regulates the rights and duties of the march comrades of a jointly managed marrow forest or district among themselves and towards the sovereign .

For example, B. the proportion of wood that was allowed to be felled per farm , or the number of driven pigs that were allowed to feed on acorns and beechnuts in the forest . In return, the sovereign took care of the taxes paid for the protection of the brand forest and provided a waiter or wood judge to settle disputes .

One example is the Mehrenberg brand roll from 1462, of which a copy from 1538 has been preserved, and the Gevener brand rolls from the 15th and 16th centuries.
