Markku Paasonen (born November 14, 1967 in Oulu , Finland ) is a Finnish poet .

Life

Markku Paasonen studied philosophy and theology at the University of Turku , Åbo Akademi , University of Oslo and the Westphalian Wilhelms University . For a while he worked as a lecturer and editor for the culture magazine Nuori voima .

Paasonen debuted as a writer in 1997 with the volume of poetry Aurinkopunos . In the same year he received a nomination for the Helsingin-Sanomat Literature Prize and was awarded the J.-H.-Erkon-Poetry Prize. In 2007 he was nominated for the prestigious Nordic Council Literature Prize, but failed to prevail against Sara Stridsberg . His works have been translated into several languages, including French, English, Swedish and Serbian.

Markku Paasonen is married to the Finnish-Egyptian writer Ranya Paasonen . Both live in Helsinki .
