Market hall (Meymac)
The market hall in Meymac , a commune in the Corrèze department in the former French region of Limousin , now Nouvelle-Aquitaine , was built in 1597 and restored in 1889. It stands in the center of the town next to the former Saint-André-Saint-Léger abbey church . In 1987 the market hall was added to the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique .
description
The roof in the shape of an inverted hull rests on long wooden beams that rest on square stone slabs. These are supported by eight brick, cylindrical pillars that stand on cube-like plinths, also made of large stones. Originally the roof was covered with chestnut shingles, which were replaced by slate in 1880 .
