Markus Aebi

Markus Aebi (born June 28, 1955 in Brugg ) is a Swiss biologist and since April 1, 1998 Professor of Mycology at the Microbiological Institute of ETH Zurich .

Live and act

After attending school in Brugg and Baden , he studied at the Department of Natural Sciences at ETH Zurich and did his doctorate with Ralf Hütter at the Microbiological Institute at ETH Zurich. His doctoral thesis was awarded the ETH silver medal. After completing his doctorate, he moved to the Institute for Molecular Biology I at the University of Zurich under Charles Weissmann in 1983 . In 1987 and 1988 he did a research stay at the California Institute of Technology and then returned to the Institute for Molecular Biology I at the University of Zurich, where he led his own research group.

On January 1st, 1994 he was appointed associate professor for mycology at the ETH and then on April 1st, 1998 full professor. His main research interests are the glycosylation of proteins and the developmental biology of fungi as well as the application of insect pathogenic fungi in pest control . In 2013 Markus Aebi was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
