Markus Fischer (biathlete)

Markus Fischer (born January 11, 1969 in Kelheim ) is a former German biathlete and today's trainer . He is the head coach of the Austrian women's national team.

Career

Markus Fischer was particularly successful as an active biathlete towards the end of the 1990s. He was mainly used in the Biathlon European Cup , where he finished third on January 8, 1999 in Ridnaun in an individual behind Ulf Karkoschka and Helmuth Messner .

After his active career, Fischer became a biathlon coach. As a base trainer in Ruhpolding , he was initially responsible for looking after the youngsters in biathlon. From 2007 to 2009 he was the responsible trainer for performance group 1b of the German national team for women, i. H. the European or IBU Cup team . He then worked again in the junior division as head coach of the Bavarian Ski Association until 2011 .

In 2012 Fischer went abroad and worked as a national coach in the People's Republic of China in the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons . He then worked in the same position in Kazakhstan in 2014/15 and 2015/16 .

In April 2016, Fischer was introduced to the Austrian Ski Association as the coach of the men's IBU Cup team. In the 2019/20 season , he also looked after the IBU Cup and parts of the women's World Cup team in cross-gender training group 2. In spring 2020, he finally took over the position of head coach of the women's World Cup team. He looks after them together with shooting trainer Gerald Hönig .

Markus Fischer comes from Kelheim and is the younger brother of Fritz and Georg Fischer . He lives in Ruhpolding.
