Markus Gerber

Markus Gerber (* 1975 in Binningen ) is a Swiss sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Gerber, who grew up in Birsfelden , studied sport and French at the University of Basel and geography at the University of Lille III . Between 2000 and 2006 he worked at the Institute for Sport and Sport Science at the University of Basel as a research assistant in the field of sport education and social sciences, sometimes at the same time he wrote his doctoral thesis in the field of sport and health psychology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg in Germany . The title of his work was Sports, Stress and Health in Adolescents .

From 2007 he worked as a researcher in the field of sport and health education at the University of Basel. In 2009 Gerber completed a research stay at the University of Queensland in Australia and in 2012 at the Swedish University of Gothenburg . In 2014 he completed his habilitation in Basel , in which he dealt with physical activity as a mental health resource. In March 2016, he held his inaugural lecture as Professor of Sport and Psychosocial Health at the University of Basel.

The focus of his sports science activity is the connection between stress and physical activity.
