Markus Holzbach (* 1969 in Limburg an der Lahn ) is a German architect , materials and process engineer and has been a professor at the Offenbach am Main University of Design since 2009 .

Life

Markus Holzbach completed an apprenticeship as a mold maker in a model workshop and studied materials and process engineering at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences . After studying in Switzerland from 1992 to 1993, he worked as a development engineer. In 1994 he began studying architecture at the University of Kaiserslautern , which he completed in 2000.

As assistant to Werner Sobek , Holzbach taught and researched at the Institute for Lightweight Structures (IL) and at the Institute for Lightweight Design and Construction (ILEK) at the University of Stuttgart , where he also received his doctorate. Since 2005 he has been working on a freelance basis with projects in the fields of architecture, design and materialization. From 2008 to 2010 he was a substitute professor for mathematics at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences, since 2009 he has been Professor for Visualization and Materialization at the Offenbach am Main University of Design, where he heads the Institute for Material Design (IMD). Holzbach was vice dean from 2010 to 2016 and has been dean of the design department since 2016.

The focus of his work is the role of material in the design process. Wood Creek is Visiting Professor at the Politecnico di Milano / I . Further teaching activities have taken him to, among others, RWTH Aachen University , the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge / USA.
